Don’t you love all the conveniences of technology in this 21st century. I love using my computer, typing, researching, even doing such things as sending e-mail and inviting my daughter’s friends over for a play date. I have, however found that this often leaves my neck in agony, and this in turn trickles down to my shoulders, spine, even arms and fingers. As we organize our lives online, we sit still and usually hunched over. His leads to the pain. Do you want a prescription, or a constant intake of over the counter pills? Not me, I actually tried a neck massage. It helped with eye strain as well as other ailments. I just walked into my local spa, and there I found a great massage therapist. Massage is the manipulation of superficial layers of muscle and connective tissue. This is done to enhance function and promote relaxation and well-being. If you are looking to modern medicine to cure your issues, maybe you are looking in the wrong place. The art of massage dates way back, back to over 3000 years. It has been documented by the ancient Hindus, Persians and Egyptians. They all applied forms of massage for many ailments. Hippocrates even wrote papers recommending the use of rubbing and friction for joint and circulatory problems. Neck massage is not an ancient cure, but a modern cure based on ancient methods. So, back to my first neck massage. My masseuse was wonderful. She owned her own equipment and was very proud of the fact she had worked so hard to earn money to pay for it. I sat in her chair facing the back and she alternately massaged my shoulders back and forth for about a minute. She then squeezed my neck muscles as I just relaxed. I then shrugged my shoulders slowly and then she rubbed my neck from base to the skull. This short massage took about 10 minutes as it was only a neck massage. Had I gone in for a combination massage, it would have taken longer. So, how do you find a massage therapist that can work on your aching neck? Well, as with everything, there are qualifications, and there are genuine qualifications. You can ask your doctor to refer you to one he/she works with, this may even be covered by insurance. There are so many types of massage, and it is done in a variety of ways with a variety of ancient remedies. There are many ways of having a massage done. There are also many types of oils, seeds etc that can be used. A person receiving a massage may be on a mat, chair, or table, usually without clothes, but covered with towels or sheets. If one is uncomfortable with this, he/she may wear underwear. When having a neck massage, you don’t have to worry about being nude! If your doctor doesn’t refer, just look online, or go to your local spa.
